Costs Savings Through Improved Efficiency
New construction is not the only market for modern HVAC systems, duct, and accessories. Retrofitting and restoration projects are on the rise, due to cost savings through improved efficiency.
The most famous example in recent history is the Empire State Building.
Starting in 2009, a 10-year major renovation began. Part of the $550 million total was a $20 million green retrofit project for replacing and upgrading a variety of interconnected, energy related systems.
Retrofitting included the chiller plant, windows, air handling units and exhaust fans, digital controls, and more.
As a result, the reduction in air conditioning expenses alone saved $17 million of the project’s capital cost immediately and partially funded other retrofits. The 40% energy savings reduced annual costs by $4.4 million, quickly recouping the cost of the conservation measures.
Today, at the end of the groundbreaking project, the Empire State Building renovation is held out as a new energy role model for the world.
In the U.S. today, the median building is 32 years old and about half of America’s commercial buildings were built before 1980. The Northeast is home to the largest and oldest buildings, with a median age of 46 years.
The demand for improving comfort while reducing annual energy costs is a significant part of the continued growth in the HVAC market overall.
Benefits of Replacing Commercial HVAC Systems
HVAC projects don’t have to be as big as the Empire State Building to benefit from retrofitting.
Any well-planned HVAC retrofit project can bring these important benefits to the table:
- Energy Savings and Lower Operating Costs
- Reduced Repair Costs and Improved System Lifespan
- Quick Return on Investment
- Improved Tenant Comfort Levels
Experience has shown that the energy savings experienced in the Empire State project is not unusual. HVAC commercial retrofits often result in 40% cost savings on energy. These retrofit projects typically involve a suite of related upgrades, including:
- Ductwork sealing and/or replacement
- Replacement of aging compressors with new high efficiency ones
- Adding condenser fan controls with new variable-frequency drives
- Adding zone capable comfort controls
- Installing supply fan speed and cooling capacity controls
It’s not theoretical, our experience at The Cincinnatus Group shows that a significant portion of our projects are now driven by restoration projects occurring across the country.
That’s why we make a great partner for supplying duct, accessories and complementary services to contractors engaged with HVAC retrofits. We know the challenges and we’re ready to be your partner in success. Call us at 878-295-8009, or visit our Contact Us page today.
Benefits of Replacing HVAC Duct
In any project where an HVAC upgrade is planned, a ductwork inspection is strongly recommended, and duct replacement should be considered.
HVAC duct is designed to function with an airtight seal. Unfortunately, like all physical systems, the integrity of the ductwork can be counted on to decline over time. Holes, gaps, and loose connections degrade the efficiency of the ductwork and can undermine other elements of an HVAC restoration project.
Benefits of replacing old duct include:
- Energy savings through elimination of leaks and increased efficiency
- Air quality improvement, as aging duct is a gathering place for dust and allergens
- Improved comfort levels due to better control of temperature and humidity
When it comes to replacing duct, TCG Duct has everything you need, from modern spiral ductwork to traditional rectangular duct. Double wall, welded, TDF, Slip & Drive. Whatever your needs, including specialty metals and industrial duct, TCG is an experienced leader in the field.
